Faculty of Information Technology (FIT) is the public institution belonging to the University "Džemal Bijedić" of Mostar, located in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. 〔(UNMO;FIT )〕 Program and curriculum are based on Bologna declaration. FIT offers three-year bachelor's degree and two-years master's degree in the field of Information Technology.〔(UNMO;FIT 1 )〕 Founded in 1997 by prof. dr. Safet Krkic. By April 2008, 2254 students has enrolled this faculty and 211th students graduated. FIT provides in-class as well distance learning studies. Distance learning students represent the majority of the student body, whose number is constantly increasing. FIT is the public but a self-financing institution which covers its costs from students fees.〔(UNMO;FIT 2 )〕 Beginning 2002, FIT offers graduate studies. == About the Faculty of Information Technology == Following wishes and pursuit of young people, primarily of those who planned to continue their education at some of the higher-education institutions of our University, we launched an initiative in 1996 to establish a Study of Informatics at the University. The University Senate appointed a committee with a task to make a feasibility study for establishing a higher-education institution in the field of information technologies. In a relatively short period of time, the Committee made this study and it proved that the idea to establish a two-year Study of Informatics was justified. Therefore, the University Council made an official decision on 10 October 1997 to establish a new higher-education institution. By establishing Study of Informatics at the University we met demands of a great number of young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina who now have an opportunity to get educated in the area of information technology in their own country. Dynamic development of the Study imposed the need for reorganization. A feasibility study was made and then approved by the Academic Senate and the Council of the University. Accordingly, the official decision was made and the Cantonal Court of the HN Canton registered this institution on 17 February 2003. Keeping pace with dynamic development of IT, the curricula have been constantly modified. In the ten years of our existence we have changed and updated the content of the curricula six times. Since 2001/02, we have been organizing distance learning studies. Our efforts will be made in this direction in the future. In the academic year of 2002/03, we initiated postgraduate study.
